Technial jargon
Below you'll find some terms or abbreviations that ecologists use.
Aerial Inspection
This method of survey requires the ecologist to climb a tree to inspect cavities to find bats or to assess the potential for bat.
Bat Roosts
Roosts are where bats rest during the day. There are different types of roosts depending on how the bats.
Ground Level Roost Assessments (GLRA)
This is a survey method for assessing if trees have suitable habitats for bats
Preliminary Roost Assessment (PRA)
This is a survey method for assessing if buildings have suitable habitats for bats
Potential Roost Features (PRF)
PRF's are features on buildings and trees that are suitable habitats for bats. Things like gaps in roof tiles and woodpecker holes provide the ideal environment.
eDNA surveys
Samples of water are taken from ponds and sent to lab to analysed for the presence of great crested newt DNA
